Monday Musings // First Week of September

Happy Labor Day, friends! Hope you all are well. :) My family had a fun yet busy first week of September. Some of the things I've been been up to these past several days . . .

~school (reading, writing, and arithmetic . . .)
~watching the "Queen Esther" LIVE show on Sight & Sound TV. :D
~brainstorming ideas for a new story (and only getting a total of 464 words written).
~fresh reads (Daddy Long Legs and Portrait of a Lady, to name a couple).
~receiving/replying to sweet emails from dear friends. <3
~with the help of a lovely younger brother, moving another shelf up to my room to stash schoolbooks in. then my dad hung a brand-new whiteboard above it for me to use whenever I'd like. (already I'm feeling more put-together.)
~getting my books/posts organized for the FFF party in October.
~going cycling with Mom after church on Sunday (which was GREAT).

Below are a few photos, the first of which was taken a couple weeks ago, but I never got around to sharing it. :D Enjoy!

This adorable little one wearing my headphones. *heart eyes*

When you need a reminder, just grab a pen and write His truth on your arm. <3

I seem to have a fascination with mushrooms . . .
(but, mind you, that does NOT mean I like to eat them. just use them as photo prompts.)

A peek at my school shelf + whiteboard.

How was your week? Were you able to watch Queen Esther? Let's talk in the comments below! <3

Blessings,
Ellen S.

    1. And is that "Do Hard Things" on your bookshelf?

    2. I think it is, because we own the same book. 😉

    3. Yep, it surely is! "Do Hard Things" is a part of my curriculum this year, and I'm looking forward to reading it. :D
@Lilly, we do My Father's World for English, history, and Bible, Apologia for science, Duolingo for foreign language, and Teaching Textbooks for math. How about you? :)

    4. It's a great book! I think you'll enjoy it! I've heard of MFW from a friend and I think we did TT a few math years ago. We use a large mixture of curriculum--too many to list here. But I thinking about writing a post with my thoughts on them. (Maybe I'll do that now.)

    5. @Ellen, I started Apologia science this year and am liking it! (however a bunch of homework *wink*) and TT for math. Do you like Doulingo? I have honestly not heard anything good about it... I use Rosetta Stone.

    6. Sounds fun, @Lilly! I can't wait to read your post! :D
@Sawyer Apologia is the best!! Duolingo has a more secular atmosphere, so you have to be careful what you listen to/read. However, it's also served to be a great learning platform. We did Rosetta Stone for a long, long time before finally switching over, and I've found that 15 minutes on Duolingo = 2 years of Rosetta Stone lessons. :)

    7. Not to mention... Duolingo's free, so if we were paying, we'd definitely make a complaint about the secular stuff. From research and friends, we've figured out Duoingo and Rosetta Stone are quite alike (in ways), but one is overpriced and the other is free (and very secular in places.)

    Mushrooms make me shiver.
I take delight in mauling them with sticks though.
    I'm weird, aren't I?

    1. *laughs* No, I don't think you're weird. My younger sister enjoys kicking mushrooms and watching their fluffy caps explode into pieces on the street. ;)

    3. It's another amazing Sight & Sound Theatres production! Due to corona keeping many people home, the movie was aired live on their site to watch: https://www.sight-sound.tv/

  9. I didn't know that Queen Esther was live and available to watch or I SOOO would have watched it. :-( We are thinking about getting our grandparents tickets to go see it as their 50th wedding anniversary is coming up in a few weeks. :D

    1. I enjoyed it for the most part, although there were a couple things (Jerusha/Judy's religious views, namely) that I didn't agree with. I hope to write a more thorough review soon, so stay tuned! :D

  15. I've got to say, there is a reason why your little sister is a source of squealing whenever I see a picture of her. Just. too. cute.

I love organizing. New shelves for the schoolbooks . . . YES! And whiteboards are fun to doodle on, even if you aren't using them for schoolwork!

Daddy Long Legs was very well-written and engaging, but Jerusha/Judy's religious views kept it from getting a full five stars from me. :) Full review to come, Lord willing!
      Aw, thank you, m'dear!
